How to Register for a Training

Public YMHFA Trainings

The public training calendar has ended for the 24-25 school year. Please check back for public training opportunities in August 2025.

YMHFA training is for adults who work with youth aged 12-17. The training will be virtual (2 hours of pre work, 4.5 hours instruction and 1.5 hours of break) and will be at no cost to participants. These trainings are also open to staff members within schools or youth serving organizations who need to be trained in YMHFA to help their site reach the 5% quota. If you have additional questions email Amaris Sampson, School Based Mental Health First Aid Coordinator at ncymhfa@ssw.unc.edu. Fill out the form linked below to sign up for an upcoming training.

For Organizations: Youth Mental Health First Aid

Use the form linked below to schedule a YMHFA training for your school, district, or youth serving organization at no cost to the participants. This request should only be submitted if your organizational needs cannot be met by one of the public virtual trainings that UNC will be hosting each month. These requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis due to limited slots. Please note, first priority is given to requests that are planning to implement tMHFA.

Training options for YMHFA are as follows:

  • Fully In-Person 8-hour day (6.5 hours of instruction, 1.5 hours of break)
  • Blended In-Person 6.5 hour day (2 hours of pre work, 4.5 hours instruction and 1.5 hours of break)
  • Blended Virtual 6.5 hour day virtually (2 hours of pre work, 4.5 hours instruction and 1.5 hours of break

For Organizations: Teen Mental Health First Aid

Use the form linked below to schedule a Teen Mental Health First Aid training for your school, district, or youth serving organization at no cost to the participants.

Training options for tMHFA are as follows:

  • Fully In-person for 3 days at 90 mins per session
  • Fully In-person for 6 days at 45 mins per session
