WholeHealth Sport (WHS) and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS)are teaming up to provide coaches and The Team Around the Team with Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) in Sport.
MHFA in Sport is an evidence-based training that provides adults with tools to notice signs and symptoms in young people who may be developing a mental health challenge or substance use disorder, how to approach the young person, and how to connect to national and community resources, as necessary.
Mental Health First Aid through WholeHealth Sport equips coaches and the Team Around the Team with tools and skills to notice signs and symptoms of a mental health challenge, approach an athlete with care and compassion, and connect athletes to national and community resources, as appropriate.
People who take MHFA in Sport have:
- Increased mental health literacy
- Increased knowledge of resources
- Increased confidence to step in
- Decreased psychological distress
The training comes at no cost to participants. Each participant will receive a $150 gift card upon certification in the course.
The training format is the blended version of MHFA in Sport, which has 2 parts: a 2-hour, self-paced portion and a 5-hour virtual (via Zoom) or in-person live training.
